“If you’re going to San Francisco….” resign yourself to the fact that you’ll never be able to get that song out of your head. The northern Californian gem of San Francisco has long been a favourite of American and international visitors alike. It’s beautiful and jam-packed with things to do.

Start by renting a bike and riding along to coast from Pier 39 (say hi to the resident sea lions) all the way to the Golden Gate Bridge. Ride across to the other side for the best views of the Bay, the Bridge, the city and Alcatraz from Fort Point.

Visit Golden Gate Park and the Haight-Ahsbury neighbourhood where the Summer of Love movement all began. The Castro is the gay neighbourhood where some of the most important human rights figures changed the face of society forever.

The Mission district has a rich history, but is also worth exploring as the cultural hub that it is currently. Sit on the hill in Dolores Park to be a true local and to people watch. Visit Clarion Alleys Mural Project for some thought-provoking street art.

The Painted Ladies are a row of Victorian houses with the backdrop of the city behind them, most famous as the setting of classic 1990s sitcom Full House. Ride a cable car, visit Lombard street – the windiest street in the world… These are all just the tip of the iceberg!
