Quick Guide

Gothenburg is like Stockholm’s cooler, younger sibling. It’s where most of Sweden’s famous musicians and artists got their start. It’s a place of funky galleries, sprawling parks, and where the waterfront is an intrinsic part of city life.

The museums and galleries in Gothenburg not only have great content, but the buildings themselves are super hip and creative. Roda Sten is contemporary art gallery housed in an abandoned and graffitied power plant, and then there’s the cultural history focused Molndals Museum which can be found in a converted old police station.

The Linne district is where you can experience the grungy, grass roots, creative vibe of Gothenburg. It’s all thrift shops, funky cafes, and eccentric artsy types. Here you’ll find a unique piece of hand made clothing that you can rest assured no one else will have. The Klippan precinct is a fabulously restored historic area including 17th century sailor’s cottages and the remains of an old fort. Strolling along the waterfront could keep you entertained for days, and if you need to really get back to nature there’s the beautiful Kungsparken (King’s Park).

For families there’s Scandinavia’s largest amusement park of Liseberg, and the ever-stimulating hands-on science museum of Universeum.
