The place to see and be seen, less about the beach itself (quiet rough and rocky, really) and more about the sun-baking, the parading, and soaking up the every-day-is-a-holiday vibe of the French Riviera.
Acquaint yourself with Nice by strolling around the old town – Vieux Nice – and up to the lovely Parc du Chateau perched on the hill above it for spectacular views. Sip a coffee and watch the world go by. Pop down the other side of the hill to the beautiful port of Port Lympia with its gorgeous old buildings and lovely waterfront. Then stroll along the beachfront and palm-lined Promenade de Anglais for the heart of Nice’s beach action.
Art lovers with be delighted with the Musee Matisse – a fabulous collection of the famous artist’s works. Take a day trip to the uber-ritzy Cannes, home to the film festival of the same name, and pose like a celebrity in front of the yachts and the red carpet. Equally luxe and worth a day trip is the micronation of Monaco.
Enjoy some fine dining, or equally tasty budget meals from the many bistros, and dance the night away at one of Nice’s many bars and clubs.
