Colombia’s capital of Bogota is written off as ‘just another big city’ by many in the backpacker scene. Wrong. So, so wrong. From the maze of cobbled streets in the ‘Old Town’ of La Candelaria, to the super funky café-and-bar culture of Chapinero, there’s always something new to discover in Bogota.

The hill of Monserrate looms over the city; climb or take the scarily steep funicular up to the centuries-old monastery at the top for sweeping views and a true grasp of the size of Bogota.

One of the world’s biggest street art scenes is established in Bogota. Take a walking tour to understand how it came to be and to discover some of the best works.

The Gold Museum and art gallery of Colombia’s most famous artist, Bolero, are must-visits. Flea markets happen every Sunday in the hip historic neighbourhood of Usaquen and in the downtown area. You’ll be entertained for hours even if you don’t purchase anything!

For outdoor adventure seekers the mountains just 45 minutes outside of the city centre provide excellent hiking, paragliding, mountain biking and rock-climbing opportunities.
