Of all the islands on Croatia’s Dalmatian coast, Hvar is one of the most captivating. Visitors to this part of the world are usually on the look-out for three things – beaches, sun, and partying. Hvar does not disappoint. With multiple options when it comes to accommodation, dining, nightlife and beaches, there’s something for everyone on this island. From budget backpackers, to guests of multi-day sail excursions, to sophisticated holiday-makers with extensive budgets, Hvar has got its visitors wrapped around its little finger.

Upon arriving in Hvar take a short walk up through winding streets and a pine-filled park to the Fortica. This old, walled fort offers beautiful views over Hvar Town and the harbour. Hvar Town itself is compact, car-free, and delightful. All of the big architectural draw-cards are centred around St Stephens Square, including its namesake Cathedral, the 17th century Arsenal, and the Benedictine Monastery.

Even the nightlife is historical-building focused. Climb a steep ladder up to the top of an old watchtower to sip sunset cocktails, or dance the night away in a the ruins of an old fort which is now one of the island’s biggest nightclubs. Carpe Diem is the most famous club which draws big-name DJs and has often been listed as one of Europe’s top ten.
