Queenstown

Queenstown is the absolute jewel in New Zealand’s crown. This small yet happening city is the favourite of backpackers, adventure junkies, and scenery lovers alike.

For the most breathtaking views take the Skyline Gondola up to the top of the hill above Queenstown. There’s walking trails and mountain bike trails up there, but the best activity is just drinking in the views of the surrounding forests, lakes and mountains.

Then of course there’s the myriad of activities that earn Queenstown it’s Adventure Tourism Capital badge. There’s bungee jumping, skydiving, paragliding, zip-lining, white-water rafting, and jet boat riding, all set against mind-blowing scenery.

For something a little lower-octane and less heart-attack-inducing, there’s helicopter rides, self-drive tours, Japanese-style hot pools, and hiking. Lake Wakatipu must not be overlooked. Kayak on the lake or walk along its shore to drink in some of New Zealand’s most iconic views.

Attracting so many visitors with a thirst for adventure, Queenstown has the bar and nightlife scene to match. There’s plenty of great restaurants to line your stomach with a good meal before you dance the night away.
