The largest city in Thailand after Bangkok, Chiang Mai is home to more than 300 Buddhist temples and welcomes than 20,000 expats from all over the world. Some say that Chiang Mai is the perfect place for retirement since it has a rather laid back atmosphere. Since the city is not that big, many sightseeing spots are easy to reach by foot if you want to avoid the busy traffic.

For sightseeing, there are always guided tour options with local experts who will show you around the city, or you can purchase a map and have an adventure of your own. The magnificent temples, Wat Chedi Luang and Wat Phra Singh are the most notable historical landmarks in the city that attract thousands of tourists and locals as well. If you are looking for breathtaking nature sights, waterfalls and hiking adventures, Doi Suthep–Pui National Park is the next place you’ll want to visit. Visitors who happen to be in Chiang Mai in February will get a chance to enjoy the fascinating Chiang Mai Flower Festival. It is considered to be the greatest flower show in the country.
