Lima

Love for Peru’s capital doesn’t happen instantly. It is a big, sprawling city whose charms tend to go unnoticed. The general advice from other travellers is to get, sleep, and get out to Peru’s more beautiful and exciting places. This doesn’t give Lima the credit it deserves. Amongst the plain buildings, traffic and coastal fog, there are some true gems to be discovered.

Most visitors to Lima will stay in the Miraflores district. This area offers lovely cliff walks overlooking the Pacific, but its real advantage is the proximity to some of the best Peruvian restaurants. Peruvian cuisine is hailed as the best in South America, and one of the best in the world. Sip a pisco sour and chow down on some fresh ceviche. Lima will make its way into your heart through your stomach.

Lima’s fine art museum – Museo de Arte de Lima – showcases some amazing talent, and the Museo Nacional de Antropologia will enlighten you in all areas Peruvian cultural history. Multiple archaeological sites are dotted over the city and there are endless other museums to learn more about any topic which interests you.
