Tenerife is the jewel in the crown that is Spain’s Canary Islands. If you’re looking for a beach holiday, but want just a little bit more, Tenerife is for you.

There’s family-friendly, all-inclusive, sand-and-sun resorts lining the south coast. When you’ve had your fill of sunbaking on golden beaches and swimming in the ocean, head inland, north, or over east for some truly diverse treats.

For day trips to delightful little towns, you can’t go past the historical villages of La Laguna and La Oratava. Surprisingly enough, Spain’s largest national park dominates the centre of the island. Parque Nacional del Teide is home to the ominous volcano which birthed Tenerife in the first place. Take the cable car to the top of Pico del Teide for spectacular views across the volcanic valley and all the way down to the ocean on a clear day. Just south is the Roques de Garcia – mesmerising formations of hardened lava.

The mountain town of Masca makes for a great escape to nature, with excellent hiking options in the adjacent Parque Rural de Teno. The east coast offers a smattering of local beach towns that aren’t geared toward tourism – perfect for those looking for an authentic Canary experience.
