Quick Guide

As full of character as Sofia Vergara and as unique as Sofia Coppola, the capital of Bulgaria is an interesting destination and a great introduction to south-eastern Europe. The city has a rich history and has been influenced by many cultures – and it shows. Orthodox churches and mosques, Red Army monuments, green parks and cool street art make Sofia a unique place to visit, and extremely cheap too!

All the must-see architectural landmarks, such as the Alexander Nevski cathedral, the Russian church, the church of St. George and the national theatre “Ivan Vazov”, to name a few, are cosily located in the centre within walking distance from each other.

In warm months, there is nothing better than a stroll around Sofia’s many green parks. The largest and the most famous one are called Borisova gradina. Here you can find a small lake, statues of many famous Bulgarians and 2 large stadiums. The other park worth checking out is the City Garden and, specifically, for the Comedy Central fans out there, the South Park.

For some outdoor fun visit the Vitosha Mountain, located on the outskirts of Sofia and visible virtually from every spot of the city. Here you can enjoy hiking, climbing, mountain biking, winter sports altogether with a great view (it is more than 2000 m above sea level!).
